Taiwan has dramatically escalated its defensive posture as China conducts its largest military drills yet around the island. In response to Chinese warships, fighter jets, and dozens of rockets fired near Taiwan, authorities deployed explosive barrels and river obstacles north of Taipei to block potential amphibious landings.
Amphibious vehicles lowered barriers into river mouths while Taiwan’s Coast Guard led emergency maritime security operations.
