In today’s video, I will make the original mace formulation, which used chloroacetophenone (CN) as its active ingredient. Known for its powerful irritant effects, this compound was one of the first chemicals used for its deterrent properties and formed the first formulation known as Mace.
Later in the video, I document a limited firsthand exposure to observe some of its effects. This video is not intended as a guide, tutorial, or endorsement of any kind. The goal is to look at the science, history, and hazards surrounding this compound while showing the chemistry involved.
