Situated at Barapani, Umroi, Shillong, Meghalaya 793103—just about 10 km off the Guwahati–Shillong highway, near the Shillong Airport.

Managed by MSFS Guwahati Province, it is one of their Holy Redeemer Renewal Centres alongside branches in Mawkhlam and Tura.


🏛️ History & Development

In late 1996, MSFS acquired land and a house at Umroi. Originally used as a minor seminary, “Lum Mermier,” it served until 2001.

By 1999, leadership decided to convert it into a retreat centre. During the early 2000s, monthly conventions and retreats were introduced, drawing large crowds—averaging around a thousand participants per event.

Infrastructure expanded with a retreat hall and men’s dormitory by 2001. An adoration chapel, Way of the Cross statues, and paved approach road were added by 2015–16.

Ministries & Programs

The centre offers a broad spectrum of spiritual activities:

Monthly conventions, weekly healing/deliverance sessions

Daily prayer and healing services, perpetual adoration

Youth & children’s ministries, Word of God sessions

Counselling, retreats and directed retreats (including for religious communities)

Outreach ministries for the needy and sick

👥 Staff & Leadership

Early ministry led by Late Fr. Chacko Varapadavil (2000–05), joined by Fr. Reji Kizhakkethalackal in 2001.

Directors over the years include:

A number of priests and religious staff assist with preaching and retreats, alongside MSMHC sisters supporting counselling, worship, music, and daily operations—their collaboration resumed in 2011.

🙏 Impact & Community Engagement

The centre has hosted various group retreats, including those for local children’s homes. For instance:

In July 2023, children from Rilang Children’s Home attended a spiritual retreat featuring healing adoration sessions led by Fr. Jude and Fr. Reji.


These retreats focus on spiritual growth, prayer, renewal, and community formation.
