IAF’s S-400 War Tactics That Pakistan Couldn’t Track | Shoot-and-Scoot: That Shocked Pakistan

Описание: During the recent May conflict, the Indian Air Force’s deployment of the S-400 Triumf air defence system became a masterclass in modern mobile warfare. Far from acting as a static shield, the S-400 was operated in a highly dynamic “shoot-and-scoot” mode that repeatedly defeated Pakistan Air Force tracking and targeting efforts.
According to sources cited by idrw.org, IAF S-400 firing units were constantly on the move, operating across off-road terrain, forests, jungles and remote forward areas that enemy planners never expected heavy air defence systems to use. Launchers relocated immediately after every engagement, sometimes shifting 50 to 100 kilometres after a single missile launch.
This extreme mobility, combined with sensor-shooter separation, allowed launchers to disengage and move even while missiles were still in flight. Target data and mid-course guidance were provided by other radar units in the network, creating a constantly shifting engagement geometry that the Pakistan Air Force was unable to map.
Despite deploying Chinese military satellites and European commercial satellite firms, Pakistan failed to establish a continuous track on the S-400 batteries. Strike packages were repeatedly dispatched to suspected firing zones, only to find empty positions, decoys or outdated intelligence.
The S-400 did not operate alone. It was fully integrated into India’s layered air defence network alongside MRSAM and other radar systems, enabling seamless target handoff and shared situational awareness across multiple engagement zones.
India’s Chief of the Air Staff has publicly credited the S-400 system with four to five confirmed kills of Pakistani fighter aircraft, with an additional aircraft downed by the MRSAM system. The episode has now become a case study in mobile, networked air defence warfare, highlighting the vulnerability of traditional suppression doctrines against modern, highly mobile air defence systems.
