Lectionary Preview –Transfiguration of Our Lord (Year A)

Описание: This weekend we gather to celebrate the Transfiguration of Our Lord, the final Sunday before we begin the journey into Lent. On this mountaintop, the disciples glimpse Jesus in glory, reminding us who Christ truly is—and giving strength for the road that leads back down into everyday life and, ultimately, toward the cross.

2 Peter 1:16–21

Matthew 17:1–9

In Second Peter, the church is reassured that the story of Jesus is not myth or imagination, but grounded in real experience. The writer points back to the moment when Jesus’ glory was revealed, reminding believers to hold onto Christ’s message like a lamp shining in a dark place. Even when faith feels uncertain, Christ’s light continues to guide and sustain us.

In Exodus, Moses goes up the mountain and enters the cloud of God’s presence. The mountain burns with divine glory as Moses remains there for a long and holy encounter with God. Yet Moses cannot stay on the mountain forever—he must return to the people, carrying what he has received into the real struggles of life and leadership.

And in Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up the mountain, where his appearance is transformed and Moses and Elijah appear beside him. Overwhelmed, Peter wants to remain in that holy moment. But soon the cloud lifts, the vision fades, and Jesus leads them back down the mountain—reminding them that God’s work continues in the valleys as well as on the heights.

Together, these readings remind us of a truth we often forget:
✨ God gives us moments of clarity to strengthen us for what lies ahead.
✨ We cannot live only on mountaintop experiences.
✨ Christ goes with us both up the mountain and back down into everyday life.
