This episode of the podcast is a full breakdown of how I approach in-season S&C for Gaelic Games.
I talk about how I structure the weeks & months of training, how I decide upon what will be done on each day and how I communicate that with the coaches so that they know what drills, games & exercises are appropriate for each session.
I explain how we integrate our speed & change of direction work into pitch sessions and why we perform our pitch and gym sessions on the same day.
I speak about what gym-based exercises are appropriate for each day of training, how I foster enjoyment and healthy competition amongst the group, as well as going into depth on the coaches that have influenced my coaching process and thought-patterns around in-season training.
We use a colour-coded model for training, categorising sessions as Red, Orange, Green or Yellow. This colour coding of sessions applies to both the nature of pitch and gym sessions and brief explanation can be seen below.
Red (High session) = Improve Performance of High-Speed Actions
Orange (High session) = Improve Repeatability of High Speed Actions
Yellow (Low session) = Improve Technical & Tactical Elements + Feel Good (Primer session/ Team run)
Green (Low session) = Recover from High days, Improve Aerobic Conditioning, Tissue Tolerance & Technical Skills
