Barcarolle, derived from the Italian word "barca", meaning "boat", originated in Venice, Italy, was originally a local folk song sung by the boatman of Gondola, and later converted to classical by the composer One of the musical songs, interestingly, is not the Italian composer who promotes this tune. It was later adopted in Indonesia, year unknown.
I knew of this song from a boy scout jamboree in Hong Kong in the 1960’s, when I was active in boy scouting as a Queen’s Scout. An Indonesian Queen’s Scout introduced this song at the campfire, along with other famous Indonesian folk songs… the chorus went on and on.
The easy way out would have been to upload the DVD concert version. But I found that the abbreviated length and poor sound quality would do injustice to both Teresa Teng and the song. I therefore removed the DVD sound clip and replaced that with an original concert sound track. As the DVD clip showing one of her eight performances in seven days is considerably shorter than the MP3, and the two have different speeds, I have edited the DVD clip in several places to match Teresa Teng’s mouth movements, which has taken half a day to accomplish. I have also edited the lyrics as they are different from the concert DVD’s. Please now enjoy this song with a much clearer sound quality in full version based on a famous Indonesian folk song, performed live by the incomparable Miss Teng at her concert series in Hong Kong in 1982.
