The prolonged delay of President-elect Park Geun-hye's nomination of cabinet ministers has raised concerns about the confirmation hearing process.

And she's running out of time.

Our Lee Ji-yoon tells us more. President-elect Park Geun-hye said Wednesday that she hopes the confirmation hearings will give the nominees a chance to have their abilities and beliefs known, instead of serving as a forum to personally attack the candidates.

Those types of personal attacks have been one of the ruling party's biggest complaints up until now.

Just last month, Park's nominee for prime minister Kim Yong-joon withdrew his nomination, saying that the relentless questions and personal attacks against him and his family, including his grandchildren, had led to the breakdown of his family.

"Murderous personal attacks are taking place, it almost looks like a slaughterhouse."

The DUP, meanwhile, says there are currently no measures to penalize the nominees, even if they lie during a hearing, and that the nominees can REJECT requests to submit materials that would help verify what they are saying.

"We need more documents to verify what these candidates are saying, but we are provided with nothing."

Experts say that in order to improve the hearing process, and overcome the partisanship that has hindered them in the past, nominees should be put through a more thorough screening process BEFORE the hearings take place.

They also suggest that the parties should work together to decide how to protect nominees from excessive violations of their privacy.

Partisan disputes have been a barrier in the confirmation process since 2002, when the first confirmation hearing was held for former President Kim Dae-jung's nominee for prime minister.
