Ey gaziler, yol göründü,
Yine garip serime.
Dağlar, taşlar dayanamaz,
Benim ah u zârıma.
Dün gece yâr hanesinde,
Yastıcağım taş idi.
Altım toprak, üstüm yaprak,
Yine gönlüm hoş idi.
English Translation
O veterans,
Another journey appeared to me.
Mountains, and stones cannot endure
My pain and sorrow.
Last night in the abode of my beloved,
My pillow was a stone.
Below me, the earth; above me, leaves,
Yet my heart was content again.
