Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren on Thursday did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in connection with an alleged illegal mining case. The JMM leader was to be questioned about the activities related to the illegal mining and its large-scale transportation allegedly in association with aide Pankaj Mishra, who was arrested in July in connection with the case. Mishra’s 2 aides Bachhu Yadav and Prem Prakash have also been arrested.
Since 2014, there has been a 4-fold jump in ED cases against politicians, out of which 95% are from Opposition parties, as per The Indian Express.
Is the central agency being used- as the opposition claims- "to muzzle voice of the opposition & topple governments"? And is the Jharkhand government under radar this time?
