Filmed on 10 January 2026, this video features a guided tour of the Derwent Valley Railway workshops at New Norfolk, Tasmania. While the railway is not currently operating trains, the volunteers are actively refurbishing carriages and locomotives as they work toward regaining accreditation and reopening in the future.
We were shown around by a very friendly and knowledgeable guide, and the tour offered a great insight into the scale of work happening behind the scenes. A highlight was a look inside the ACS cars, which once operated on the Tasman Limited.
The railway runs workshop tours by request on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If you’re interested, you can contact them via their official website to arrange a visit.
