EC President-elect: rebalancing EU very important

Описание: (29 Aug 2019) European Commission's President-elect Ursula von der Leyen said in Bulgaria on Thursday she would focus on 'rebalancing' the European Union towards Central and Eastern European members.
Von der Leyen, Germany's former defence minister, met with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in the Bulgarian capital Sofia to discuss her agenda for when she takes up her post in Brussels on November 1.
She promised to exchange more "knowledge and views" between Central and Eastern European countries and the rest of the EU.
"The challenges ahead of us are enormous," she said.
"We need a fresh start on migration... it is very important that we invest in digitalisation, that we invest in the education, it's the young people who are building our future."
Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said the region had enormous potential.
"Many human resources from all former socialist countries, from the Balkans, went to work in Western Europe," he said.
"Now Western Europe is obliged to invest a lot in order to improve the skills and competitiveness of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans."
