At the edge of a field carefully cultivated by generations of villagers grows the Old Wild Apple Tree — modest in appearance, yet truly remarkable. For more than 150 years, it has withstood wind, rain, snowstorms, and heat waves in the challenging conditions of 860 metres above sea level.
From a place known as Diel, this quiet guardian watches over the village below, bearing witness to its joys, struggles, and changes. It is a place where one suddenly feels part of something greater.
The Old Wild Apple Tree represents Slovakia as a finalist in the Tree of the Year 2026 competition.
