Matt Slick of CARM vs Warren McGrew of Idol Killer.

Is Total Depravity True? A question rooted equally in Scripture and epistemology.

While employing epistemology Matt argued against epistemology, maligning it as something heretical. However, it is simply the study of knowledge; especially with regard to its methods, validity, and scope. Epistemology is the investigation of what distinguishes a justified belief from a baseless opinion. In other words... this is what all good and noble Bereans should strive for.

In this debate Warren presents several challenges to the doctrine of Total Depravity and reveals numerous undercutting defeaters and inconsistencies inherent in Mr. Slick's position.

Additionally, Mr. Slick repeatedly abandoned the debate topic, redefined Total Depravity, going so far as to not only argue against his own statements made in his CARM articles, debates, teaching videos and the definition he agreed to prior to the debate, but even those positions he stated in the actual debate itself. This debate is sadly a good example of cognitive dissonance at work.

Mr. Slick's argumentation essentially consisted of appealing to circular reasoning, calling Warren a Pelagian, asserting his own credentials as superior, misrepresenting what Warren said, appealing to confusion, mocking and condescension. He failed to address the undercutting defeaters Warren presented and repeatedly changed positions, redefining Total Depravity when he felt it was expedient to his argument.
