STORYLINE :
Sisters of Mother Teresa's international order placed flowers on her marbled grave and sang her favorite hymns and prayers on Friday to mark the sixth anniversary of her death.
A special morning mass was held at the Mother House, the headquarters of the order founded by Mother Teresa in 1949 in the eastern Indian city of Calcutta.
The nuns and sisters of the Missionaries of Charity, wearing their trademark white sari with blue borders, stood in rows in front of Mother Teresa's tomb and sang many of her favorite hymns.
A stream of Mother Teresa's admirers filed into the front hall of the four-story building and placed wreaths on her tomb.
Among those who attended the special prayers was Sister Nirmala, superior general of the Missionaries of Charity.
Sister Nirmala said the order was moving ahead on its mission to serve the poorest of the poor and it had added more than 100 centers since Mother Teresa died at the age of 87.
The Missionaries of Charity has about 700 centers in 125 countries run by some 4-thousand sisters and volunteers.
The Roman Catholic Church is considering Mother Teresa for sainthood and she is expected to be beatified on October 19 at the St. Peters Basilica in Rome.
Mother Teresa was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Macedonia, on August 26, 1910. She received the Nobel peace prize in 1979.
Last December, Pope John Paul II approved a miracle attributed to her - the reported healing of a tumor in a woman who prayed to the nun - and that paved the way for her beatification.
A second miracle would make her eligible for sainthood according to the beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church.
Mother Teresa died in Calcutta in 1997 at the age of 87.
