Global LIVE | A new report claims Pakistan is recruiting former Afghan Army soldiers and police officers for counter-militancy operations in Balochistan. According to an RFE/RL investigation, nearly 2,000 ex-Afghan personnel, many of whom fought the Taliban under the US-backed Kabul government before fleeing after the 2021 takeover, have been recruited into state-backed armed groups in the province.

Other reports say they are being deployed against the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF). Pakistani authorities have not confirmed that any such programme exists, and Balochistan's government says it has no verified evidence. Is Islamabad building a proxy force against Baloch insurgents?
