Speaking about her new proposed law to restrict local police from working with federal agents on civil immigration enforcement, Gov. Kathy Hochul told a story of a couple who she said was taking a 1-month-old baby to apply for a U.S. passport. She said immigration agents smashed the car window and extracted the father, "and left the mother and the baby surrounded in glass inside the vehicle, left them alone in the cold, bitter temperatures."
"You know how hard people work to [keep] safe and protect their children?" Hochul said. “My God, what has happened to this country? What has happened here?”
