Climbing in Hungary: Nazgul, my first 8a, Kis-Gerecse

This was a very hard mental and physical battle for me. Since last october, I haven't really climbed anything ouside except from this route. I could do all the moves on my first day, I thought it's going to be a fast send, even tho I only climbed my first 7c last year, and had no 7c+ to my name. Every to single day I believed that the send could come any moment. But it did not. It took me 14 days of effort and 34 all out tries with a lot of more practice.

I tried it all november until it was only 6° ouside. But you will see in the video, that I failed evey single time. A lot of times because it is very challanging to do everything right. Bad footholds, tricky moves, I have fallen on a lot of them, Foot popping, hand freezing, dryfireing. All the good stuff. Of course it was right on the limit for my fingers and endurance so mistakes were made as soon as i felt tired.

Iván introduced me to the route, gave me most of the awesome beta. I tried the crux with his high step up method for a long time until I realized that I can't do it from the ground. We have been grinding it together at least half of the time. Finally this year on my 3rd day something magical happend. Everyithing was right. I have felt that I am two time stronger than last time. It was incredible. Everything before the crux felt basically effortless. I messed up the big move even and held is somehow while my feet slipped on the wet foothold. It bugs me a little bit that it wasn't perfect. I had much time lieft of the day so I even climbed a crimpy 7c, that was totally unexpected.

Thank you for everybody who supported me and belayed me, came on afternoon session in the freezing cold and listened to my angry screaming. Iván, Dani, Bálint, Ábel, Ádám, Moty, and the Kakaóscica team for all the love.

I am a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings so it was an honor to climb a route with a cool name like this.
