Designed specifically for people who already use Photoshop, this video is part 1 of a series for learning Illustrator. The similarities and differences between Illustrator and Photoshop are explained and the video introduces you to the basic tools in Illustrator that you need to know to create designs.
You will see some of the things that are the same in both programs and many of the things which are different.
You will see how to start a new document, resize a window, center the artboard in the window and save an Illustrator .ai file. Learn the basic vector tools and how to draw basic shapes using dialogs and by drawing. See how to color and adjust the shape stroke and fill and understand layering of objects and how to alter the stacking order. You will also learn how to create and use Layers in Illustrator. You will see how to select shapes and how to determine that a shape is selected in the Layers panel. Learn how to change stacking order of objects using the Layer panel.
See how to crop shapes in Illustrator using the clipping mask tool and the Pathfinder tool. See some of the shape options that are available in the Pathfinder palette to combine and cut shapes out of other shapes. See how to use the Expand and Expand Appearance tools and how to Group and Ungroup shapes.
