Felonies in Florida are classified into levels based on the severity of the offense, and each level comes with its own sentencing range. A third-degree felony can result in up to 5 years in state prison. It is the lowest felony category. A second-degree felony raises the stakes, with penalties of up to 15 years in prison. And the most severe felonies are first-degree, PBLs, and capital felonies, which can result in 30 years to life imprisonment, or even the death penalty in the case of capital offenses.
