🐦 Overview:
The Siberian Rubythroat (Calliope calliope) is a small passerine bird that belongs to the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae. It was first described by Peter Simon Pallas in 1776. This bird is slightly larger than the European robin and is known for the male's jewel-like red throat, which gives the species its name. Females do not have this brightly colored throat.

It is a migratory insectivorous species that breeds in mixed coniferous forests with undergrowth across Siberia. The Siberian Rubythroat nests near the ground. During the winter, it migrates to Southeast Asia, including countries such as Thailand, India, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. It is an extremely rare visitor to Western Europe, with occasional sightings as far west as Britain.

The bird has a distinctive appearance: plain brown upperparts, a strong white supercilium (eyebrow), and a black tail with red side patches. The male's throat is red with narrow black and broad white borders. Its song is similar to a harder version of the garden warbler's song.

Previously, the species was classified in the genus Luscinia, but molecular studies led to its placement in the reinstated genus Calliope, meaning "beautiful-voiced" in Greek, named after one of the muses of eloquence and poetry.

In summary:
Scientific name: Calliope calliope
Family: Muscicapidae (Old World flycatchers)
