In this 20-minute adventure I launch my PakaYak from Hastings-on-Hudson, NY intending to fish—but the day turns into a 10-mile round trip paddle to the Tappan Zee (Mario M. Cuomo) Bridge and back. From sheltered shoreline stretches to the broad river beneath the bridge, this trip is all about river miles, skyline views, and the unexpected route that makes paddling SO rewarding.

This edited journey was filmed entirely on my iPhone 17 Pro (I forgot my DJI), handling currents and wakes, and the changing scenery as I head upriver. Whether you’re new to paddling or a seasoned kayaker, you’ll get practical glimpses of open-water navigation, kayak fishing from a sit-on-top, and pacing for longer urban paddles.

Along the way I give an honest look into fishing from a kayak on the Hudson, how I manage wind and boat traffic, and lessons learned on a longer outing when plans change. Expect quiet stretches and plenty of river time.
