Today I'm painting a simple loose country lane scene using up what is left on my palette (prussian blue, burnt umber, indigo, paynes grey, raw and burnt sienna), and mixing it to make these attractive greeny brown neutrals, try it out with whatever you have left, mix it up and see what neutral hues you can create!
I paint the sky using a wet in wet technique, spraying the paint with a water mister and tipping and tilting the borad in order to let the paint and water flow, and use gravity to help paint the storm clouds. I also show how effective negative painting can be for things like telegraph poles, paths, fields etc, and focus on keeping the brushwork really loose.
I'm using Millford 100% cotton hot press 140lb/300g weight paper, 11" x 15"/28cms x 38cms, my paper is taped to my board with ordinary decorators masking tape and is at an angle of about 45 degrees so gravity will help me paint. I use various brushes as demonstrated in the video, but use whichever brushes you have.
