EU leaders accept Ukraine and Moldova as membership candidates

Описание: European Union leaders have agreed to grant Ukraine and Moldova candidate status for EU membership. The move from applicant to candidate usually takes years but the EU accelerated the process as a sign of solidarity with Kyiv.

The approval in Brussels comes four months after Ukraine launched its bid in the early days of the conflict with Russia. The EU decision is likely to anger Moscow which has long opposed the prospect of Ukraine joining the bloc and becoming closer with the West.
