The Ford line of pickup trucks were updated in 1937 with one major change — the introduction of an entry-level 136 CID (2.2 L) V8 in addition to the popular 221 CID (3.6 L) flathead V8. The 136-cubic-inch 60-horsepower version promised better fuel economy than its bigger 221-cid 85-hp brother. All 1937 pickups had a V-8 engine -- along with the appropriate badge on the side of the hood.
Pickup trucks got a fuller grille and vee'd windshield for 1937, but didn't look anywhere near as modern as the car line, but they did look nice and were built "Ford Tough". However, the interiors of 1937 Ford trucks didn't match the new styling on the Ford cars of the same year.
Today's Monster Hobbies Model Car Garage - 1937 Ford Pickup Truck Model Kit By Revell/Monogram is the first issue release that came out in 1997, Revell Kit No. 85-7627, but shares many components with the 1937 Ford Panel Delivery Van Model Kit by Revell/Monogram also introduced in 1997. This is a model car unboxing video.
The 1937 Ford Pickup Truck Model Kit by Revell/Monogram lists the car as being 1/25th scale which is the same size as many of the old AMT Trophy Series Ford model kits and could be a nice source of hot rod parts if you want to customize this model kit..
The instruction sheet and parts included in this kit are designed to build a stock Revell/Monogram 1937 Ford Pickup Truck. There is no option to build this great car as a custom model kit but the scale allows the choices of swapping out the factory parts with custom or drag racing parts from other model kit manufacturers, such as AMT, Polar Lights, MPC or the later Revell model kits also reviewed on this channel.
The first building step is the Ford Flathead V8 engine. This consists of the 17 piece left and right hand engine block with Manual transmission as 2 pieces, a fan, belt with separate generator, distributor, pulley housing, left and right cylinder heads, two piece air cleaner, carburetor, intake and exhaust manifolds, starter motor and radiator hoses.
The Revell/Monogram 1937 Ford Pickup Truck includes a detailed frame with an accurate front semi-elliptical leaf spring, radius rods, solid axle, steering linkages, and spring actuated shock absorbers. Out back, a two piece Ford rear axle, torque tube spring and fuel tank complete the drive line package. A two piece exhaust pipe stretch the length of the frame.
The interior consists of an open end "Bucket" for the side door panels. This piece is a little bit different than the Revell/Monogram 1937 Ford Panel Delivery Van model kit. A single bench seat is molded into the bucket, but the same separate steering wheel and steering column, dashboard with gauges, floor pedals and floor mounted gear selector make up the rest of the interior. The special extended floorboard section from the panel van is not included in this kit, but you do get the pickup bed sides instead.
The fender assembly for this kit is reminiscent of the AMT 1934 Ford Pickup Truck in it's construction, however, the rear fenders are molded separate from the body and fender assembly. Radiator and headlights glue in at the front with the same construction style as the AMT kit. The body and hood are single separate pieces and the glass for the front windshield frame and rear window pushes in from behind. The back of the pickup box includes a tailgate panel and front box panel. You also get a spare tire for the side of the pickup box. The nicest feature of the engine and hood area is the chrome vertical grill shell.
Front and rear bumpers, horns, exhaust hoses, windshield frame, tail lights and many other small features makes up the remainder of this build.
The decal sheet includes images for the "Checker Market", which is a fictional fruit and vegetable market which also include two "Checker Market" cardboard boxes in 1/25th scale. The second version is as a Ford Parts Truck for 1937 Ford dealerships.
Overall, this model kit is easy to build and will look great on your model kit shelf or in your model car garage.
