The Sololo and Moyale Mission
Soon after, we faced another historic assignment a mission of peace.Under the courageous leadership of Abdulqadir Abdi, the then Borena Zone Administrator, we crossed into Sololo, Kenya, with his cabinet members.
Our mission was delicate to convince returning OLF soldiers to come home peacefully.
The reception was
unforgettable Kenyan Borena Oromo elders and women welcomed us with cultural songs and joy.
Days later, senior officials including the then vice commander in cheif of army and the current professional head of the Ethiopian military, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula Gelalcha,the then oromia presdent Abadula Gemeda, and Abiy Ahmed arrived in Moyale by helicopter to oversee the handover of the returning OLF fighters.
At that time,Abiy Ahmed was not yet widely un known a quiet but determined officer, already showing the leadership spirit that years later would make him Prime Minister of Ethiopia, leading the call for Oromo unity and national transformation.
Their speeches carried one powerful message: the unity of the Oromo people.That day, under the burning Borena sun, history turned
