Embellished Hollow Form Part 3 - Wood Carving, Texturing & Pyrography - Woodturning Techniques

Описание: In part 3 of this woodturning series, this hackberry hollow form really begins to come to life as I move into surface embellishment and texturing.

With the design already laid out, I demonstrate a range of carving and embellishment tools, including heavy-duty carbide carving burrs, smaller stump-cutter–style burrs, and finally pyrography for the most detailed and intricate textures. You’ll see how each tool affects the surface and how layering techniques can add depth and movement to a carved vessel.

Although I use some higher-end carving tools, they are absolutely not required to achieve this kind of result. A Dremel or inexpensive flex-shaft tool can be more than capable if you’re not ready to invest in specialized equipment. The focus here is on simple concepts, repeatable textures, and design thinking — not fancy tools.

The carving and texturing approaches shown in this video can be applied to vessels of any size, shape, or design, making these techniques useful whether you’re working on sculptural hollow forms or more traditional turned work.
