Cable TV in Margate, 1951 style!
Rediffusion began work in the summer of 1950, and the cable TV service was officially opened on April 12th 1951.
I've upscaled and colourised this short bit of Pathe footage, which shows interior and exterior shots of Rediffusion's Relay House in nearby Westwood, along with the installation of a set in a customers home.
The reciever looks like a heavily modified Philips 385U with a large base unit attached. This now made Interference free reception in the fringe area of Margate possible!!
