Fierce battle for hearts looms in Batu with 10 candidates in the fray for GE15

Описание: Batu will see the fiercest-ever fight with 10 candidates battling for the parliamentary seat in the coming election.

The Election Commission (EC) said it has accepted all nomination papers filed for the constituency in SK Sentul Utama, here, today.

P. Prabakaran, an independent candidate who won the Batu seat in GE14, will be defending the seat for a second term under Pakatan Harapan's ticket.

However, former PKR vice-president Tian Chua is returning to contest in Batu against his party's will.

Tian Chua served as the Batu MP for two terms between 2008 and 2018 and secured both victories under the PKR ticket.

However, he was disqualified from defending the Batu seat in 2018 due to a RM2,000 fine imposed on him by the Shah Alam High Court.

Consequently, Tian Chua and PKR threw their support behind Prabakaran, who contested as an independent candidate, leading the latter to win Batu by 13,687 votes in 2018. Prabakaran later formally joined PKR.

Another big name vying for Batu this time will be Datuk A. Kohilan Pillay from Barisan Nasional (BN).

Some fresh faces are also throwing their hats in the ring for the Batu seat this time. They include prominent human rights activist Siti Zabedah Kasim and social media influencer Nur Fathiah Syazwana Shaharuddin, or better known as Cleopatra, who will be contesting as independent candidates.

Other candidates contesting in Batu for GE15 include Azhar Yahya (Perikatan Nasional), Naganathan Pillai (Warisan), Wan Azliana Wan Adnan (Pejuang), Mohd Zulkifli Abdul Fattah (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and independent candidate, Too Cheng Huat.
