Not sure who was faster this week — me building this lighter boat in just three days, or the boat itself on the water 😄 Either way, it feels like a big win all round.
Using a new (and more challenging) layup structure, I managed to complete this hull 600 g lighter than the first LEGACY33. The goal was simple: compare performance and understand the positives and potential trade-offs. More speed, cooler running, and better efficiency were expected (possibly opening the door to bigger or faster props), but the real question was handling — not just on mirror-flat water, but in real-world wind and chop.
I couldn’t wait to launch it this morning.
Conditions were ideal for a proper test: a steady breeze across the water with a light ripple breaking the surface. To my relief — and honestly, a bit of excitement — the lighter hull ran faultlessly.
Straight off the workbench:
35% CG
1° AOA (Angle of Attack)
And she was immediately ready to take the win.
The boat sat composed in all directions relative to the wind, showed zero porpoising, and carved tight turns like it was on rails. An absolute pleasure to pilot.
Temperatures clearly reflected the efficiency gains — the ESC was running at least 10°C cooler. That said, there’s a lot of seasonal grass in the water at the moment, and I’m fairly certain the skeg and prop were picking some up during the run. Even so, performance remained strong and consistent.
Overall, I’m extremely happy with the result. This weight target is now firmly set as the finished hull benchmark for future builds — and it’s exciting to see the development heading exactly where it needs to go.
