Cognitive hardiness, often viewed as a personality trait, is related to resilience, the ability to bounce back from difficult experiences.

Psychologist, Suzanne Kobasa, first developed the concept, based on 3 core beliefs or attitudes:

1. Commitment: The belief that one is invested in, and engaged with, the world and has a sense of purpose and meaning in life.

2. Control: The belief that one can influence and shape events in one's life, and that external factors do not solely determine outcomes.

3. Challenge: The belief in post-traumatic growth; that change and adversity, instead of being insurmountable obstacles, are opportunities for growth and development.

Overall, cognitive hardiness is an important concept in the study of resilience, coping, and mental health.
