Fifth place: An unqualified man or a plain woman were cost from 150 to 250 denarii. They were used for basic tasks such as delivering items to their master, cleaning the house, or being personal servants for children. Typically, almost every Roman owned a slave of this kind.
Fourth place: A young, physically strong man could cost from 500 to 1,500 denarii. Such slaves could be used in agricultural labor or for working on the construction of bridges and stone walls.
Third place: Gladiators could be priced between 2,000 and 5,000 denarii and could perform in deadly combats within arenas such as the Colosseum, providing entertainment for citizens.
Second place: An educated slave, often of Greek origin, could be priced between 6,000 and 10,000 denarii. Such slaves were capable of educating and nurturing children within the households of wealthy Roman citizens.
First place: A young beauty slave woman could be valued at 25,000 denarii or higher. She was not acquired for labor but was exclusively for the purpose of providing pleasure to her master in the bedroom. Only the wealthiest Romans could afford such a luxury.
