Thousands of Russian servicemen were involved in fighting in Eastern Ukraine. Journalists from the investigative group "Bellingcat" have published a new report unveiling the number of Russian soldiers fighting on the territory of Ukraine. According to the recent data, 4,300 awards have been entrusted to numerous Russian mercenaries combatting in eastern regions or contributing to the fightings against Ukrainian army.
Bellingcat experts have examined a big deal of pictures from social network. They figured out the Russians were awarded with the medals of Suvorov and Zhukov for courage in combat, as well as with medals of valour and for battle merit.
The researchers compared the unveiled data and the official statistics of the frequency of medal bestowal in Russian military ranks. They claim there must have been at least 10, 000 Russian citizens participating in the armed conflict.
