Extended Exercise Interview with "Banger" DETCO Canadian Air Force at Frisian Flag Leeuwarden

Описание: One of the highlights of Frisian Flag was for the fans the participation of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Runway28 had the opportunity to interview the Canadian Pilots and several crew members. F/A-18 Hornet Pilot “Banger” is the deputy commanding officer of the 433 squadron nicknamed the “Ti-Pics”, based at Canadian Forces Base Bagotville (ICAO: CYBG), Quebec, Canada. The squadron flies the McDonnell Douglas CF-188/CF-18 Hornet.

Banger is a senior pilot, an instructor pilot and the deputy commander. Participating in Frisian Flag was a training objective defined last year and in the summer of last year we started with the preparations. We felt that this exercise could meet a lot of our training objectives that we identified. Especially for our junior pilots who haven't had the opportunity to experience training in an exercise of this size and scope. It was a really great training opportunity for us as Canadians. The whole squadron at Leeuwarden counts 6 jets and 13 pilots; everybody of the combat team is here.

This exercise will be successful when the experience of integrating with a lot of different nations, learning their capabilities, learning how we fit in with the larger packages is reached. We are just really happy to be here, I can't recall of us ever participating in Frisian Flag before, so it is new for us and it has been an exciting exercise for a lot of guys in the lead-up to coming out to this exercise. So far from what we have seen we will experience meeting our expectations. All around, everybody is pretty happy with the expectations and the results and personally I would love to come back here in future years.
