The Lake Apopka Loop Trail isn’t truly a loop, but an arc of 17.2 miles each way along the lake’s north shore, or a 34.4-mile round-trip.
Popular among cyclists, hikers, and bird-watchers, this is a very remote trail once you’re on it. Most of the trail follows levees through marshes along the lakeshore, with very few opportunities for shade. Sun protection is a must if you don't want to get sunburned! Surfaces are rough and gravelly, perfect for a fat tire bike. Alligators are abundant, so be careful! There are watch towers near the Clay Island Trailhead. It ends at the Green Mountain Overlook Drive after a long uphill climb.
