Debunking Sunscreen Myths with Dr. Ariel Ostad on Fox 5 News

Описание: This morning I had to opportunity to be interviewed by Rosanna Scotto and Bianca Peters on @fox5NY to share my insight on the controversy of whether sunscreen is causing more harm to you or helping to prevent skin cancer. As a Board Certified Dermatologist I can clarify that sunscreen is one of the most important and effective steps to prevent skin cancer from developing.

Staying in the sun without any sunscreen on for about 20 minutes a day may not seem like it’s harmful, but it adds up overtime and can lead to the development of skin cancer. On a day to day basis I see many different patients who come in for skin checks and skin cancer surgeries. I educate all my patients on the importance of wearing sunscreen daily and reapplying every 2 hours. The ideal sunscreen to use is a mineral sunscreen that contains both Zinc Oxide and Titanium Oxide. Be sure to wear sunscreen daily, even when it’s cloudy outside. UV rays can still penetrate through the clouds.
