The project will enable local people of all ages to take part in a programme of activities and events including dry stone walling, tree planting and maintenance, woodland management and forestry endeavours (including traditional “planking”), horticulture, wellbeing retreats, Forest School, flora and fauna discovery, arts and music, and environment and ecology to name but a few!

The project will also involve:

🌳The recruitment of staff and a supporting volunteer programme
🌳Building a new community building to house the business and welcome visitors
🌳Building a new polytunnel and developing a community allotment
🌳Increasing visitor numbers and engaging with a wider audience
🌳Improving inclusivity by creating spaces that are wheelchair-friendly, and offering an off-road tramper for visitors to use
🌳Developing and improving digital platforms and building digital access to activity
🌳Creation of supporting educational materials for schools and communities

💚With a 36-acre mature, mixed, woodland onsite, sitting in a biological heritage site, Hawes Farm CIC will base the project around trees, celebrating their influence on people’s well-being. This project is inspired by The Woodland Trust’s Charter for Trees, Woods & People; draws on Forest School’s learner-led approach to engagement, and will implement The 5 Ways To Wellbeing from New Economics Foundation.

💚Almost all activities will be delivered by local enthusiasts and work will be in partnership with local schools and community organisations. Programmes will be designed to complement the National Curriculum where needed and satisfy curiosities with the aim to encourage lifelong learning for everyone.
