I set out early this morning, carrying with me the little female puppy I brought home yesterday. With her nestled gently beside me, I made my way to the village fish bicycle—just as the hills were waking up—hoping to find some fresh prawns for today’s cooking.
On the way, I met old Puransena uncle, who joined me for a warm little chat as we walked back home. The chickpea and lentils soaked overnight were ready to be ground in the traditional wangediya, just the way our ancestors did.
Crushed red chilies, onions, and fresh curry leaves filled the air with their bold aroma. One by one, the cleaned prawns were placed on top of the spicy lentil batter, creating the iconic Sri Lankan street snack loved across the island—Isso Wade, crispy on the outside, soft inside, and bursting with flavor.
To enjoy it at its best, I prepared a tangy ambul seeni sambol on the side. As the fritters sizzled—golden, crunchy, and fragrant—the smell filled our little village kitchen, spreading warmth through the entire home.

මාලු බයිසිකලේ අල්ලගන්න කදු පල්ලම් නැග බැහැගෙන උදේම එන්න ඕනෙ. ඊයෙ ගෙනාව බව් පැංචිව තනිය මේ උදේ ගෙදර දාලා යන්නත් දුකයි. ටිකක් වටපිටාව බලන්නත් එක්කම එයත් එක්කම ගියා ඉස්සෝ ටිකක් අරගෙන එන්න.

මගදි හමු වුන පුරන්සේන මාමත් එක්කත් පොඩි කතාවකට වැටිලා ගෙදර ආවා. ඊයෙ රෑ පෙගෙන්න දාපු කඩල පරිප්පු ටික වංගෙඩියෙන් කොටාගන්න හිතුවේ පහසුව නිසාමයි.

මිරිස් ගලේ අබරලා ගත්ත අමු මිරිසුත් ලූනුත් ඔය ඔක්කොම රස එක් කරලා යහමින් පිරිසිදු කරගත්ත ඉස්සො එකින් එක තියලා රසම රස ඉස්සො වඩේ ටිකක් හදාගත්තා.

ඒක රස බලන්න රසවත් ඇඹුල් සැර හොද්දකුත් උකුවට සූදානම් කර ගත්තා.. කරස් කරස් ගාලා රසට හැපෙන ඉස්සො වඩේ සුවද ගැමි ගෙදර පුරාම විහිදිලා තිබුනා..
