In 2026, 22-year-old Isaac Satlat — a Nigerian student weeks away from graduation — was attacked while working as an e-hailing driver in Pretoria West. His vehicle and body were later found in Atteridgeville. A woman has been arrested, and more arrests are expected.
In 2025, 27-year-old Mthokozisi Mvelase was attacked outside Maponya Mall in Soweto after only three days back on the job. His family says he had moved to Johannesburg to support his sick mother. The South African National Taxi Council later apologised and committed to covering funeral costs.
In 2024, Bolt driver Nguquko Gaza was confronted in Berea, Johannesburg. His passing was captured on video and sparked protests by fellow drivers demanding stronger safety measures.
