Episode 81 Lubna Maelzer: From Being Abused To Helping Abused Girls In The Slums & Empowering Them.

Описание: Greetings Fellow Leaders With A Heart, in this episode, I am talking with a lady with an incredibly touching and inspiring story, Lubna Maelzer from India. She's a straight forward girl with a heart of gold from the City Of Joy, Calcutta. The first part of her life was summarized with one word: abuse at every level. From the time she was born until the day she finally had to take matters into her own hand to save not only her life but also her new born daughter's life as well.

First as a child by her own family as her skin was darker than the rest of her family, then after getting married at 18 against her family's wishes, she got abused by her husband. Followed by at her work from her male colleagues, who had a hard time having a female superior. And finally, once she saw the same abuse being administered to her new born daughter by her husband and his family, that's when she had enough of it.

As a result of it, she was thrown out of her husband's house. However, that was a blessing in disguise as that was what she needed to take control of her life. After doing so, with the support of her family, she set out to start an organization to help abused girls, specially teenage girls in the slums of Calcutta. She set out to go and meet these girls, help them anyways she could, and she taught them about hygiene, encouraged them to pursue their education as well as teaching them invaluable life skills like knitting, sewing and making handmade products with recycled materials.

On top of that, she also organizes an event every year in Calcutta, called I Support Girl Power which sheds lights into the plight of girls in Indian families. Additionally, she also does food drives with her daughter to provide basic necessities to those in need.

All in all, this is one of the most inspiring guest I've had the pleasure of talking to so far! Her story is very touching, however, her mission is truly inspiring. Needless to say, she is a true and authentic Leader With A Heart in the purest sense of it!
