Legend has it that Kente weaving dates back over 400 years to two Ashanti hunters, Opoku Kwaku and Kwakye Ameyaw, who were inspired by a spider's web at Ayowakese, near Bonwire. They ingeniously crafted a loom using wood and nails, leading to the creation of 'Asaase ntoma', or 'earth cloth'. Initially, raffia was used, but with European trade, threads from scarves were incorporated, enhancing Kente's texture and design variety
