"In Jewish art we have a lot of angels but in a peripheral job, they protect, they are hovering above but you don't see them - since Jewish art is different than Christian art obviously - you don't see them as much as you see them in the regular depictions in art. You can see them in Ketubot, in the marriage contracts. Both in Italy and in North Africa they protect the newly weds, they are there to see that no harm is done to them on the evening, on the night of the wedding so there will be a conception."

Angels are a feature in Christian, Jewish and Islamic art.
Now the Israel Museum in Jerusalem is exploring the concept of these divine winged messengers between man and God.
STORYLINE:
For centuries angels have captured the imagination of artists.
A new exhibition at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem named "Divine Messengers: Angels in Art" currently displays 30 art works.
Most are from the museum's own collection in which these heavenly beings are often portrayed as winged creatures.
Angles are revealed as the link between humans and God, chartered as guardian angels, cupids and divine messengers.
The word angel comes from the Greek word 'angelos' which means 'messenger'.
In Christianity, they are often winged children with ambiguous gender.
