Tokyo,
So this is it.
the end.
a month went by just like that.
in the blink of an eye.
to be truthful, from the moment i landed in Tokyo, i was in a very big funk that i just couldn’t shake no matter what i did.
and i can honestly say that i made efforts, every single day, to try and feel differently because i didn’t want to taint my view on a city based on how i was feeling internally and the biases i held coming into it.
this is not to say i didn't have fun in Tokyo or didn’t have moments of awe and wonder. but they were sandwiched between feelings of unrest. which is never fun.
so yeah, Tokyo might have been tough for me, but the places i visited outside of Tokyo, were phenomenal.
i got to cycle around lake Kawaguchi and see mt. fuji so clearly it was absolutely insane. a very very cold day, with the freshest air and a view you don’t come across so often.
that day was just super exciting.
i also visited Kamakura and Enoshima. and while Kamakura was not anything to write home about in my opinion, Enoshima definitely was.
you could just keep walking all around that island and never get bored of the shrines and the breathtaking views along the coast. i liked that even though it was well touristed, it didn’t lose its core charm. it was still a real place. at least to me.
and finally, Nikko.
i love a small mountain town.
i really do.
there’s something captivating about a place like that.
and Nikko especially, with all the historical ties that make it all the more magical.
and similarly to Enoshima, to me it seemed very much still like a real place.
that was Tokyo but i wanted to say some final things about this month as a whole.
after coming off the biggest high of my life, spending an incredible 4 months in Korea, i found myself hitting the ground running in Japan.
Japan is so fun.
so fun.
so fun for people who visit. (me)
and i got to see my childhood friend again.
and eat hi-chew.
and visit countless shrines.
i loved them.
my month was also made so much more memorable thanks to all the people i had the pleasure of meeting along the way.
and yeah, it was just a month in Japan.
but months like these can make an impact.
and this one did.
