The yamaha 8hp & 9.9hp engine shares the same engine, they both 212cc.
The difference is the carburetor/carburettor and a bigger pitch propeller.
If you open the hood of both engines you can immediately see the differences. the carburettor has an acceleration pump, no throttle limiter that the 8hp does.
The 8hp can only open up to 70%. Also the intake is a bit narrower from the 8hp.
Because the 9.9hp has a lot more power, the propeller is also larger. The Pitch of the 8hp is 7 1/2 and the 9.9hp has 8 1/2.
I have the largest propeller that is originally supported for this outboard which is pitch 9 1/4, which I also use in this video.
The propeller and carburetor upgrades have allowed the engine to run 8km/h faster than the engine came out of the factory! a big difference.

Carburetor: 6DR-14301-22
Propeller: 6G1-45954-00 PROPELLER (3X8-1/2"X9-1/4"-N)
