Hey, I'm Russell - I’m a wedding videographer from the UK. I’ve been shooting weddings on Lumix cameras since the G7, the GH5 and now I’m shooting on the S Series with the S1 and S1H. I wanted to share some of my favourite video features of the S Series cameras and why I use them for my all my wedding films.
I hope you enjoy and thanks for watching!
Top Features:
SLOW MOTION: I love shooting in slow motion on a wedding day as I think it really enhances the feelings of romance. With the S1 and S1H, I’m able to shoot beautiful slow motion internally in 4K. And with the S1H’s 6K mode I can shoot an entire wedding ceremony and speeches with the added ability to crop in in post production for different framing and angles.
IMAGE QUALITY: I love how organic & cinematic the image looks from these cameras, and doesn’t look too ‘digital’. For me the S series has the best image quality with a huge variety of bitrates & frame rates
CROP MODE: I love shooting on prime lenses. However, there are times when I need a little bit more reach. Using the Super35 sensor crop allows me to crop in without having to move, with the simple option press.
IBIS: I mostly shoot weddings a gimbal, but the excellent internal body stabilisation in Lumix cameras means I can quickly switch to handheld without shake in my shots.
UNLIMITED RECORDING: When shooting weddings and live events, they don’t always go as planned, so sometimes you need a camera you can rely on to set and forget. Usually I’ll set up the S1 on a tripod before the ceremony, set it to record, and come back to it afterwards without worrying about record limits.
NO OVERHEATING: Shooting destination weddings in warmer climates can put stress on cameras, especially in full sun! I know with my S1H’s internal fan that I don’t need to ever worry about the camera overheating, and in dry and dusty environments or if I’m getting in the water for an adventurous couple shoot, I know my camera is going to withstand whatever I throw at it.
BATTERY LIFE: I only need to use 2 batteries on a wedding day, and if I have a break I can simply plug in the included USB-C charging cable to quickly top up the battery and keep shooting.
DUAL RECORDING: Reliability is really important as a wedding videographer as you only get one chance to capture the day as it unfolds. Knowing that my shots are being recorded to two cards at the same time, I don’t need to worry should something go wrong with one of the memory cards.
LOW LIGHT: With the S1H’s dual native ISO I can shoot dark evening receptions without introducing noise into my footage.
I’ll also be sharing my favourite S Series camera settings in another video so keep an eye out for that!
