This investigation looks into the millions of dollars that The Gambia government has received in combating corona virus pandemic and how these monies are spent. In a global crisis, priorities and resources are often diverted, paving way for the fringe to move into the mainstream through systematic acts of corruption.
This results revealed how millions have been spent on motor vehicles and hotels whiles identified treatment centers and isolation centers are in dilapidated conditions. As an underdeveloped country with high poverty rate, mandatory stay-at-home orders have resulted in record high unemployment, jeopardized the sustainability of small and large businesses, and left many uneasy with their own mortality.
COVID19 pandemic could be worrying to many, but it is an opportunity for corrupt officials to personalize emergency aids meant to strengthen health facilities and support for the most vulnerable.
