Azam Khan, a leader of the Samajwadi Party, was found guilty of hate speech in 2019 for remarks he made about Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and an IAS officer. Soon, a Rampur court in Uttar Pradesh will pronounce his sentence. The district magistrate at the time filed charges against Mr. Khan for making offensive remarks about Yogi Adityanath, PM Modi, and IAS officer Aunjaneya Kumar Singh. If the senior leader is found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison or more, he will no longer be eligible to serve in the state assemby.After receiving temporary bail from the Supreme Court in a case involving suspected dishonesty, Mr. Khan was released from jail earlier this year.
