Boston city in lockdown: second shooting suspect still at large

Описание: Police are locking down some neighbourhoods in Boston and its western suburbs as they search for the remaining suspect in the marathon bombings.

Authorities urged residents in Watertown, Newton, Waltham, Belmont, Cambridge and the Allston-Brighton neighborhoods of Boston to stay indoors. All mass transit was shut down.

"We are asking people to stay indoors, stay in your homes. We are asking businesses in the area to please co-operate and not open today until we can provide further guidance," Kurt Schwartz, undersecretary for homeland security said.

The announcement on Friday morning comes hours after the killing of one suspect, known as the man in the black hat from marathon surveillance footage. The man in the white hat is on the loose and police are calling him a "terrorist" who came here "to kill."

The suspects first tried to rob a convenience story in Cambridge, across the river from Boston, police said.

They then went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where one campus police officer was shot several times and died, the police officer added. The pair then hijacked a Mercedes car and eventually let the driver out in Watertown, which is close to MIT.

The chase went on through Watertown where explosions and gunfire were heard in several districts.

During a shooutout, one wanted man was hit and died later in hospital, police said.

Another police officer was also wounded. The second suspect, who has been shown in pictures wearing a white baseball cap, escaped.
