Vessel with 332 aboard goes down off Basilan

A passenger-cargo vessel, carrying 332 passengers and 27 crew, capsized early Monday, January 26, off Baluk-Baluk Island, Basilan, while en route to Jolo, Sulu, the Philippine Coast Guard said.
The vessel, M/V Trisha Kerstin, owned by Aleson Shipping, left Zamboanga City around 9:20 pm on Sunday. The incident, which took place some 2.75 nautical miles northeast of Baluk-Baluk Island, at 1:50 am triggered a distress call from the ship’s PCG sea marshal.
The Coast Guard dispatched rescuers aided by commercial vessels, the military, government agencies, and local authorities. No oil spill has been reported. | Video courtesy of Governor Mujiv Hataman
