The Surprising Way to Get Tigers to Pose for Photos: Nerdy Chemistry Edition

Описание: Want to be a wildlife photographer? If you want to get great photos of the world's big cats, you might want to invest in some Calvin Klein Obsession! According to researchers, that's the #1 favorite brand of cologne for photogenic big cats.

Perfume and cologne often contains the chemical civetone, a compound derived from wild civets (a type of cat-like mongoose!). To you, the cologne might smell good, but to a tiger or a lion, it smells like another wild animal. In response, the big cat will roll all over the scent, trying to replace it with his own.

Wildlife researchers can also use this trick, by spraying cologne near fur traps. The big cat walks by and smells the scent, then rubs up against the fur trap, which gives researchers the fur they need to do all sorts of tests!
